About Dr Lisa Gatenby
Healthwise Nutrition is run by Dr Lisa Gatenby, a Registered Nutritionist and Public Health Specialist with over 25 years experience in the field of food and nutrition. She is registered with the Association for Nutrition as well as being their Regional Lead for Yorkshire and Humberside.
With a background in catering, food development, lecturing and research, Lisa is able to provide a nutritional consultancy service tailored to meet your specific requirements. As well as delivering nutrition training and personal consultations, Lisa provides a specialised service for serious injury cases, offering nutritional support and healthy eating advice.
Lisa is a true foodie and has worked all her career in food and nutrition. She started as a chef and then moved into food development, creating new recipes for the major supermarkets. She then developed her nutrition skills, completing a Masters of Medical Science in Human Nutrition at the University of Sheffield.
Following this, Lisa was privileged to work in Kingston-Upon-Hull, which was the first place in England to offer free school meals to all children in primary schools. She completed her PhD in Nutrition and went on to work as part of the research team, independently evaluating the scheme, nutritionally analysing school menus and ensuring they conformed to the guidelines. She worked closely with schools and caterers to develop their menus, whilst ensuring the products were acceptable to the children and young people consuming them.
Since this Lisa has worked in research, lecturing and public health, and is able to combine all these skills to meet a variety of needs. She teaches on Nutrition and Food degrees, as well as delivering training, diplomas and certificate courses for external organisations.
Lisa now concentrates her time to provide specialist support to complex medical cases, such as brain injury, catastrophic injuries and other disabilities, where she works with individuals, providing advice and support both to them, their families, and the wider care team. Educating and supporting them to follow a healthy balanced diet, in-line with their specific nutritional requirements.
Lisa conducts expert medico legal assessments and reports relating to nutrition and diet.
She delivers up-to-date nutritional advice, practical healthy eating sessions, including cooking demonstrations, and responding to specific requirements on a group or one to one basis. She is also listed on the Nutritionist Resource website.
